In Kafr esh-Sheikh

We’ve now arrived in Kafr esh-Sheikh and are in a hotel (next to the football stadium) which we plan to make our base for the next three weeks. This morning we collected our hire car and drove first to the village next to Tell el-Balamun to collect some of the equipment (archaeological and domestic) which we’ll need here. The family from whom we usually rent a flat there gave us a good lunch and brought us up-to-date on the village news – mainly of engagements, marriages and births. It then took us another two hours to drive westwards to Kafr esh-Sheikh and we arrived here about 5pm. Tomorrow we will go to the local SCA office and hopefully we’ll be able to start work either later tomorrow or on Monday. The weather forecast for Cairo this morning was predicting rain showers and it was very cloudy when we left, but, very unusually, the weather improved as we headed north and it seems very warm here this evening.

I haven’t taken any photos today!
